Financial Controller

Department:  Administration
Employment Classification:  Regular, Full-Time, Exempt
Reports to: VP of Finance/Accounting

Cape May is in search of a self-directed and experienced Controller to oversee all financial and accounting activities of its rapidly growing brewery and distribution companies.  The successful candidate will be responsible for budget management, financial analysis, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting, including policy and procedure This is a fantastic opportunity for a professional who thrives in a busy workplace, and is well-versed in working closely with senior management and has an entrepreneurial spirit.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of and support the company’s strategic plan
  • Monitor the financial performance of the company, assuring compliance within organizational goals
  • Compile and analyze financial reporting packages
  • Prepare monthly and annual operating budgets
  • Develop and manage financial controls, processes and procedures to ensure safeguard of assets and assure accurate and timely recording
  • Communicate financial metrics to senior management
  • Provide leadership and support to accounts receivable and accounts payable departments
  • Cash management, including a rolling 26-week cash flow, updated weekly
  • Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals
  • Manage commercial banking relationships
  • Create and implement KPI metrics
  • Interface with outside audit firms(s), banks and lessors, casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies, and collection agencies
  • Interface with outside accountants for corporate income tax on federal, state and local levels

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Department Staff


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting 
  • Related discipline Accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CPA, or CA) preferred, but not required
  • Ten or more related years of progressive experience, including public accounting experience, GAAP financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
  • Minimum 10 years progressive accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role including public accounting experience, GAAP financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Impeccable analytical and organization skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to work closely with a senior management team
  • Proficiency with Excel, Google Sheets, and QuickBooks and GAAP financial reporting
  • Prior experience in the beverage industry
