There was also a 5K run. I'd jump in TWICE if it meant I didn't have to run!

Take the plunge!

Sometimes, you’ve just gotta take that plunge.

Sometimes, it’s in 40° degree water in the Atlantic.

If that’s something you’re down for, you could do so while benefiting the Cape May Food Closet by joining a handful of Brew Crew members in the 3rd Annual St. Paddy’s Day Plunge, brought to you by Carney’s on the Promenade!

Do these guys take a wrong step? Outstanding stout….

Cape May Stout

As March rolls around, so does that most sainted of drinking holidays, St. Patrick’s Day!

While Irishmen (and -women!) the world over celebrate the man who drove all of the snakes out of Ireland — and was head of the Irish Catholic church in the meantime — there’s really no better way to celebrate than with a good stout.

And, while there are definitely more famous stouts out there, there’s really no better stout than our very own Cape May Stout.

Find out what our fans have to say!

We’re very excited that we were able to do it with Cape May Brewery, and we’re looking forward to other projects we can do together.

Storm’s Brewin’

While 2018 will probably be remembered around here as the Year of the Collaboration, we’ve still got one up our sleeve that was begun last year and finally coming to fruition this weekend.

When Nauti Spirits Distillery opened up the street in 2017, everyone around the brewery was really excited to welcome them to the Cape May County beverage family. We’ve got a good number of breweries and wineries, but only a few distilleries.

And we were even more excited when we gave them a taste and learned that they were making some really good liquors. Their vodka is fantastic and their gin is unparalleled. However, it’s their rum that’s had us enamored.

An idea was born….

This is probably the most bastardized usage of Kviek yeast ever conceived.

Tiny Drink Umbrella: Imperial Smoothie Ale

If you Google “Imperial Smoothie Ale”, you’re not likely to find much. Yet, when we decided to head to Extreme Beer Fest at the beginning of February, we knew we needed an ace in the hole to make people sit up and take notice.

And they did.

“This is the best thing to come out of New Jersey since Bon Jovi!” enthused one attendee.

Well… it’s her life and we thank her for loving us, but, let’s face it, she’s livin’ on a prayer if she thinks Tiny Drink Umbrella: Imperial Smoothie Ale is better than Bon Jovi. It’s better than a bed of roses and we’ll never say goodbye to her, but it’s not much more than a damn good beer. Nonetheless, we thank her for keeping the faith.

Either way, we pulled a few kegs before we left and made sure we had enough left over to bring it to you, our faithful fans, in a limited release of 49 cases this Saturday.

We’re Expanding

So much more room for activities!

That’s exactly what our Beer Garden has needed. It’s spacious and sunny, but… sometimes… you need more room for activities.

Because of that, you may have noticed some activity out behind our Barrel Room. We’re expanding our existing Beer Garden into what can only be called a “bad mamma-jamma.”

Now, we can fail early and fail small!

Pilot System

We have plenty of pilots at the Cape May Airport. Dozens fly in and fly out each day, and we’ve got our very own pilot on staff — well, running the joint — if we need a quick lift somewhere.

Over the past few months, we’ve been assembling another kind of pilot: a new three-barrel pilot system!

In the end, I think we got a great beer with a fantastic light malt flavor and just the right level of the Noble hop aroma from the Saaz.

Cape May Lager

The best things come to those who wait.

That’s certainly been the case with Cape May Lager. Remnants of this recipe hearken all the way back to our first pilsner, Mooncusser Pilsner, from June of 2016, but we’ve spent the better part of a year tweaking, modifying, and fine-tuning.

Because, not only are you going to love the approachability of this brew, but you’ve finally got a good craft beer that dad’s going to like, too.

It’s an "it" beer right now for an IPA.

Spotlight On… Jasper’s Backyard!

There has never been anything typical about Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Just look at that name. That’s a combination of letters that shouldn’t exist anywhere in the world. Yet, when you realize that a river called the Schuylkill runs directly through town, maybe you give ol’ Conshy a pass on its name.

There’s nothing typical about Jasper’s Backyard, either. Located a block off the main drag at 101 E 7th Ave. in Conshohocken makes it easy to miss, but the ambiance, the food, and the fact that they’re one of the few spots in the Philly area to carry Cape May IPA as a permanent tap offering lets you know that you’ve stumbled upon something special.

State of the Brewery, 2019

Last Friday, some 65 Brew Crew members gathered together in the Tasting Room bright and early for breakfast burritos and our annual State of the Brewery address.

This is practically the only chance we have each year to get everyone in the same room at the same time — and those who couldn’t make it were able to stream the event.

It’s the perfect time for everyone to become reacquainted with each other. You know, we’re at about eighty employees here, and weeks can pass without seeing someone.

“It’s great being able to get everyone in the same room at the same time,” Ryan says. “I throw around t-shirts, we talk Core Values, and I get to bring everyone up-to-date on what’s going on at the brewery.”

The State of the Brewery is the first chance many of us get to learn how the previous year went. Were we up? Were we down? Were we flat? (Spoiler: We were up.)

And we like to know these things. The numbers — the nitty gritty — really doesn’t matter. As long as the arrows in the graphs are moving toward the upper right-hand corner, everyone’s pretty happy.

Then, we get a glimpse of what’s to come. What will 2019 bring? Well… you’ll just have to watch this space to find out.
