“It's just smooth, man. Silky smooth."

Baltic Porter

Many of our beers are meticulously planned, trialed, taste-tested, trialed again, tested again, reviewed, redesigned, rebrewed, and finally released as a full-blown, ready-for-the-world beer.

That’s part of our commitment to quality. We want to make sure that we get everything just right.

And other beers sort of just… happen.

Originally brewed as the base of our Boughs of Barley release last Christmas, our Baltic Porter was never supposed to see the light of day on its own. It was meant to be barrel-aged and changed and turned into something better than itself.

But — just like all of you out there — it’s good enough on its own. Like you, it doesn’t need anyone or anything to help it along. It does just fine. (We don’t know who needs that reminder, but we’re sure someone does during “these trying times”.)

And, luckily, it’s ridiculously easy-drinking, smooth, and unbelievably tasty — all on its own.

“The overlap between sour, fruit, refreshing, crushable, and perfect-summer-sipper lines up perfectly here with Rosé du Gosé dead center of this beautiful 5-way Venn-diagram.”

Rosé du Gosé

Everyone has a close friend that they’ve only seen once in their lives, right? You got together once, hit it off, had all of the right things in common, and said, “Yeah. Once is enough. I don’t need to see this person ever again ever.”

No?

Yeah, we don’t do that either.

When we collaborate with an awesome brewery, hit it off, find that we have all the right things in common, it only makes sense to hang out again. And again. And again.

While COVID made this hang out a little different, when DC Brau hit us up because they wanted to re-brew our collaboration with them from 2018, Rosé du Gosévery cool of them to seek our blessing beforehand, by the way –, how could we say no?

How often do you tell your close friend that you don’t want to hang with them? If the schedules are in sync, you hang out.

So we did. From afar.

And, in the process, brewed an amazing rosé wine-inspired brew.

“I liked this a lot. Very smooth, but lots of flavor for a pale Lager.”

Cape May Lager Returns!

We released Cape May Lager back in February of 2019, a classic light lager: a true everyman beer.

Unfortunately, we stopped brewing it at the end of last year, making room in our schedule for brews like Cape May White and Tan Limes.

But there were more than a few people who weren’t happy with the news. Cape May Lager resonated with a lot of beer drinkers. They weren’t pleased to hear that we’d decided to discontinue brewing the beer.

And a few of them were amongst the Brew Crew.

“I love this beer,” says Innovation Director Brian Hink, “and was so sad to see it go when we made the tough call to discontinue Lager in favor of Tan Limes. After it went away, I really wanted to see it released again this summer as a Tasting Room-only offering. When some brewing space opened up and we had some lager yeast on hand, I slid it into the schedule to get it released as a Tasting Room-only brew. It took no convincing at all to get Chris on board because Lager was a huge hit with our dedicated Tasting Room following.”

So, it’s with those folks in mind  — and through Brian’s insistence — that we’re bringing it back this week, only in the Brewtique.

“Can confirm, this beer is fantastic!”

Honey Maibock

There’s good beer, and there’s ridiculously good beer.

Our Honey Maibock is one of those ridiculously good beers.

Rich and malty, Honey Maibock is a pale and classic lagerbier. With 13% of the fermentables provided by Jersey Fresh-certified honey from busy South Jersey bees, this otherwise big Bock is slightly dry with a clean finish, thanks to its many months spent lagering in stainless. Hopped with old-world Czech Saaz and new-world New Zealand Rakau, Honey Maibock has a delicate hop note that’s perfectly met by its distinctive malt profile.

Not only is it ridiculously good, but it’s also ridiculously, intensely German. German malts, German hops, German yeast… New Jersey honey.

And it’s now on tap now in our Beer Garden!

"Luckily, we figured out an alternative way to reach out, engage, and have some fun.

Rosé du Gosé, Round Two

COVID has done many, many strange things to what we once considered “normal”. Aside from having to wear a mask everywhere you go, the day-to-day life in New Jersey has become like something from a Cormac McCarthy novel.

Take, for example, the simple act of collaborating on a beer. Normally done through a number of phone calls, face-to-face meetings, and the like, the best part of any collaboration is getting a chance to travel to another brewery to geek out over their equipment and hang in their tasting room and drink their beers.

<Insert record-scratch sound>

“Not this time!” says COVID.

So, when we decided to re-collaborate with our hella good friends at DC Brau for a re-brew of Rosé du Gosé, once COVID hit, we knew we were in for something… a little different.

But we wouldn’t let a little thing like a global pandemic daunt us. We would continue undaunted.

"It definitely seems like a party going on with all of these hops.”

Anniversary Ale 9

Nine years.

Nine years since we opened our doors back in 2011.

It’s at once both easy to believe and impossible to believe. From our humble beginnings in that one, 1,500 square-foot unit to the 52,000 square feet we occupy now, in four buildings in Cape May and Egg Harbor Township, it sure has been one helluva ride.

And that ride definitely deserves a beer.

So, we’ve brewed up the latest in our Anniversary Ale line: number 9, a 9.0% ABV double IPA crafted at nine pounds-per-barrel with an overabundance of wheat and an obscene amount of hops, Anniversary Ale 9 is juicy, tropical, and saturated with hops

Cheers to nine years!

Erosion 2020

The folks in production have been working hard to keep up with the demand for our core brands like Cape May IPA and Coastal Evacuation — throughout the quarantine period, we’ve seen folks sitting at home, drinking our beers, and we love it.

However, that means that our tank space is at a premium. Or, to clarify, our tank space at HQ is at a premium — we still have plenty of tank space available in our Experimental Brewery over in the Barrel Room.

What to do… what to do…?

Might as well brew up some crazy, mixed-fermentation beers for the Tasting Room!

First up, released upon our reopening earlier this week, is Erosion — a mixed-fermentation saison with a co-pitch of our favorite Belgian Saison yeast and our favorite, down-and-dirty funk musician…

Ladies and gentlemen…

Put your hands together for BRRRRRRRETT LAAAAAAMBICUUUUUS!

(…we miss live music….)

“This is definitely a pinky-out kind of beer that is meant for those long days hanging around the pool.”

Strawberry Sunset

As you drive to the brewery, entering Lower Township, you may notice a sign tucked to the right side of the road. It’s an easy sign to miss — it seems to have been placed by a thoughtful neighbor rather than some governmental entity –, but it proclaims Lower Township to have the best sunsets in New Jersey.

Y’all… that sign ain’t lyin’.

If you’ve never had the chance to situate yourself on the bay side of Cape May County toward the end of the day, you’re missing out on one of the finest experiences of your life.

Combine it with a delicious strawberry lemonade shandy, fortuitously bearing the name Strawberry Sunset, and you’ve got an experience to remember.

"A taste of summer!"

The Bog Reviews 2020

The summer season is in full swing, and the reviews for The Bog are in: it’s the beer of the summer!

Our incredible cranberry shandy blended with lemonade, The Bog is vibrant and refreshing while still packing tons of flavor. With a low ABV of 3.9%, it’s refreshing enough for the quickly increasing temperatures in the area while keeping the alcohol content low enough to drink all day long.

We checked out Untappd to see what our fans had to say about The Bog this year, and they’re definitely loving it!

“Hoppy, nice mouthfeel, brilliant aroma, but it's also quite different because there's hardly a trace of bitterness and it's pretty damn sour, too.”

Key Lime Corrosion

Make It Better: it’s one of our Core Values, and how we approach a lot of things at Cape May Brewing Company. From improving our beers to finding ways to improve functionalities in the office, we’re always looking for ways to Make It Better.

And this ethos extends to things that don’t even need to be made better: we believe that things that are already pretty good on their own can always be improved.

Take, for example, our unique sour IPA, Corrosion. By most accounts, Corrosion is an awesome beer — Sour. IPA. BOOM. You wouldn’t think that there are many ways we could improve upon it.

Yet… we did it: Key Lime Corrosion is available now in the Brewtique!
