Welcome Mike and Adam
CMBC is growing so quickly that it seems like we’re welcoming a new member of the team almost every week. This week is an exception — we’re welcoming two new team members! Mike McGrath and Adam Benziger — both new to the warehouse — started in the past few weeks.
Adam is originally from Newburgh, NY, a town about halfway between NYC and Poughkeepsie on the Hudson River, while Mike hails from Williamstown, NJ. Both of these guys have some serious brewer’s cred: Mike having graduated from the American Brewers Guild in Middlebury, VT, and Adam holds an Advanced Brewing degree from the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago.
They were both drawn to CMBC to further their careers in brewing. Adam spent some time interning at Yonkers Brewing Company near NYC, and also spent five months at Israel’s first microbrewery, Dancing Camel, in Tel Aviv. He says, “I came to CMBC because I wanted to gain knowledge from an established brewery with a growing reputation in the brewing community. Being near the beach in the summer is an added plus!” (Oh, we know, Adam. We know.) Adam learned how to surf while he was in Israel, so be sure to say hello when you see him down at The Cove.
On the other hand, we’re glad Mike found his way here — his previous job is something that maybe only Ryan at the brewery would find interesting. “I worked in a law office dealing with foreclosures,” Mike says. “Basically my job was to calculate the total amount of debt that a mortgagor accrued over the period of loan.” Sounds… uh… INSANELY boring and we’re glad we could get him away from that hell.
Both guys are big music fans, with Mike enjoying punk/hardcore, indie rock, and anything instrumental, while Adam’s tastes tend toward metal, including Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, and My Morning Jacket, and he also plays guitar.
Mike, a juggler, has a pitbull named Boogie Board and once won a trip to Space Camp in elementary school. (Blogger’s note: So. Freakin’. Jealous.) Adam recently took up Yoga, and is a Knicks fan, “even though they’ve been terrible the past few seasons.”
One thing the guys can agree on is their favorite CMBC brew: Coastal Evacuation, though Adam prefers the bretted version. “The sourness of the brett goes really well with the hops,” he says.
Welcome aboard, guys! We’re thrilled to have you.
