Things to Do This Independence Day
Like a lot of things over the past three-and-half-months, Independence Day celebrations are going to look a little different this year.
Gone are the parades. Fireworks? Few and far between. You may feel brave enough to host or attend a socially-distanced barbecue, but anything that involves gathering with a lot of people and doing a thing is out the window.
Sounds like the perfect weekend to grab a beer!
We’ve got three ways for you to celebrate the Fourth of July at home with a cold Cape May brew.
There really isn’t a beer more patriotic than Cape May Lager — at least according to Cape May Brewing Company standards.
After all, we brewed Cape May Lager to be the Great Unifier, meant to bring people together, and there’s no better day to bring people together — socially distanced, of course — than the Fourth of July.
And, really, it’s a beer that everyone will be sure to love. Great with burgers, hot dogs, barbecued chicken — really anything that you’ll find at good Independence Day barbecue — Cape May Lager is crisp, clean, and ridiculously drinkable.
So, be sure to stop by the Brewtique this weekend to pick up a few cases of Cape May Lager!
National Independent Beer Run Day
Each year, the Brewers Association — the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent American brewers — hosts National Independent Beer Run Day with independent craft breweries nationwide.
All you have to do to participate is to make a beer run on Friday, July 3rd.
Literally, the easiest thing in the world to do.
Just. Go. Buy. Craft. Beer.
Let’s face it: you’re probably going to do that, anyway.
The week leading up to Independence Day is typically a big week for beer sales, so… why not make it into a thing?!?
You can check out BeerRunDay.com to learn more or to find an independent brewery near you, but, if you’re reading this blog, you already have a favorite independent brewery: Cape May Brewing Company.
So, place your order online for home delivery or curbside pickup!
This should definitely become your Independence Day tradition, no matter what else is going on out there in the world.
Not only is Hamilton Ryan’s favorite musical ever, but it’s really up there in terms of being one of the greatest pieces of theatre ever written. It’s really a non-musical theatre-person musical — Ryan, for example, is a history buff who enjoys Hamilton.
So… what is Hamilton?
In the simplest terms, it’s a musical about the ten-dollar Founding Father without a father. He got a lot farther by working a lot harder, by being a lot smarter, by being a self-starter.
Now everybody knows his name.
He was an immigrant from the Caribbean island of Nevis, he worked his way up to become the primary author of The Federalist Papers, founded the First Bank of the United States, and became the first Treasury Secretary.
And — most importantly (at least as far as Cape May is concerned) — this is the guy who founded the Coast Guard.
As we share a hometown with the only Coast Guard training station in the country, we’ve had a long association with the Coast Guard, brewing Always Ready in their honor and being named a Hometown Hero by the United States Coast Guard Community Foundation in 2018.
So, at CMBC, we like this guy and his musical.
Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, it’s not your typical musical theatre music. Sure, there are some really nice melodies in the piece, but, for the most part, all of the music is decidedly hip-hop-based.
In fact, a CD containing a lot of the songs from the musical — The Hamilton Mixtape — features the likes of Alicia Keys, Regina Spektor, The Roots, Nas, Sia, Queen Latifah, Ashanti, Ja Rule, Wiz Khalifa, Common, Chance the Rapper, John Legend, and on, and on, and on.
This is not your grandfather’s musical.
And it begins streaming July 3rd on Disney+!
The film stars the original Broadway cast, including Phillipa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., Jonathan Groff, and Lin-Manuel Miranda himself as the title character. They were originally planning for a theatrical release, but… you know… COVID.
So, grab a few cans of Always Ready, toast to the founder of the Coast Guard, and settle in for some Founding Father musical theatre magic!
So, stay home and order some Cape May brews online, hit up one of our accounts on the Beer Finder and order in, and get ready for some musical theatre magic with Hamilton!
