Are you 21?

Yes -or- No

This content is for adults 21 and up.

There was also a 5K run. I'd jump in TWICE if it meant I didn't have to run!

Take the plunge!

Sometimes, you’ve just gotta take that plunge.

Sometimes, it’s in 40° degree water in the Atlantic.

If that’s something you’re down for, you could do so while benefiting the Cape May Food Closet by joining a handful of Brew Crew members in the 3rd Annual St. Paddy’s Day Plunge, brought to you by Carney’s on the Promenade!

IMG_5997_1It’s a full weekend at Carney’s, with much of the proceeds going to the Cape May Community Food Closet. Started by some of the area churches in 1982, the Food Closet assists people living in Cape May, West Cape May, Cape May Point, and some of Lower Township. Currently, they serve about 60 families each month, including seniors on fixed incomes, seasonally-employed individuals, people with physical or mental challenges, single-parent families and others.

And… Cape May IPA and Cape May Lager flowing all weekend long!

The weekend kicks off on Friday night with Beer Olympics! For a $20 entry fee, the games begin at 10pm with drink specials for the participants. The proceeds go toward the Cape May Food Closet, and winners will receive a cash prize, a gift basket, and a trophy, so grab your best friend and get to competing!

Then, on Saturday, the real festivities begin.

The day begins with Kegs and Eggs from 9 to 11 — for only $10, you’ll get your breakfast on as well as a complimentary Cape May brew!

Following breakfast, you can participate in a fully-sanctioned 5K race, setting yourself a new PR or simply competing against the other runners. If five kilometers is too far for you, go for the one-mile walk! Either way, you’re raising money for a good cause.

Then, it’s time to take the plunge! At 12:15, the assembled revelers will race toward the Atlantic Ocean and — willingly — jump in! Of their own accord! Not forced to by anyone!

IMG_6005_1Last year, we had six very brave, very cold Brew Crew members take the plunge. The sea was angry that day, my friends, but with bellies full of Cape May IPA, nothing was too cold!

“There was also a 5K run,” said Director of Brewing Operations Jimmy Valm. “I’d jump in TWICE if it meant I didn’t have to run!”

Running all weekend is Carney’s St. Patrick’s Weekend Menu. Featuring traditional Irish classics, you’ll be able to sample Irish Beef Stew, Fish N’ Chips, Guinness Babyback Ribs, and Guinness Onion Soup. In addition, Carney’s Corned Beef & Cabbage is the stuff dreams are made of. Be sure to try it!

You’ll also be able to catch some killer bands! On Friday night, you’ll see Terry O’Brien’s Beatles tribute band, Love Me Dudes, in the Main Room beginning at 7pm. Following the plunge, JB Rocks will be onstage until 6pm, with Chronic Groove taking over at 10pm. On Sunday — St. Paddy’s Day — you’ll see The Rockets onstage with a live jam session to help Carney’s celebrate their 40th anniversary.

Hard to believe that Carney’s has been hosting generations of Cape May’s revelers since 1979. We’re proud to be a part of this weekend for the third year in a row and help them raise some much-needed funds for the Cape May Food Closet.

See you there!
