“We started with the silo outside through to the canning line,” Chris said.

Brew Day for the Brew Crew

One of the great things about working at Cape May Brewing Company is that we all get the chance to participate in a Brew Day as part of our training. From the Beertenders to the Marketing Department, each member of the Brew Crew can take a day on the brewery floor, learning what the team in Production do each and every day.

Generally, we learn that they work very, very hard.

Last week, four Brew Crew members got their moment to shine: Tasting Room Manager Chris Costello, Private Events Coordinator Kathy Forler, Beertender Rich Schmidt, and Marketing Assistant Kristen Taylor.

We caught up with Chris, Rich, and Kristen after their grueling day on the floor. (Unfortunately, Kathy had to run to her shift in the Tasting Room.)

Meet Rich!

Hey, look! It’s our greeter, Rich Schmidt!

A Wildwood High School graduate, Rich is a retired police officer: a 26-year veteran of the North Wildwood police force. He’s always got a smile on his face as you walk through the door — but don’t think you’re going to get a fake ID past this guy. He’ll just wrestle you to the ground and make you wish you were never born.

For all of his considerable brawn, he’s truly got a heart of gold. Be sure to say hello the next time you’re down!

I am from: Cape May Court House

My favorite CMBC beer is: Wow, hard to just pick one. So, I’ll go with my favorite right now: a 50/50 mix of Snag & Drop and Corrosion. I call it a “Drop of Acid”.

The greatest adventure I ever had was: Definitely my career as a Police Officer. That job was an adventure every day.

My favorite hobby is: Fishing, although I don’t get out as much…..but, now… BEER!

The last time I laughed until I cried was: Not really sure, can’t remember last time.

The superpower I’d like to have is: Teleportation

My favorite movie of all time is: Tough one… but has to be Jaws… first movie I saw in a drive-in theater. I still watch it every time it comes on.

My favorite cartoon is: Bugs Bunny

The best pick up line I ever heard was: “The ugly lights are on!! You’re coming with me.” I couldn’t believe a girl said that to me… haha!

The most famous person I ever met: Ric Flair (Woooo!), Triple H, and Shawn Michaels. (Professional wrestlers. — Ed.) They were at the Boathouse Restaurant in Wildwood and signed autographs for my boys.

My biggest pet peeve: People parking in the fire lanes out front of stores!

The sports teams I follow are: Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers.

The best advice I’ve ever received is: Always work hard; hard work equals success.

If I were an animal, I would be: Just a dog.

I was drawn to CMBC, because: I love beer, and, after retiring, I wanted to fulfill my lifelong dream of working at a brewery!

If I had to name a CMBC beer tomorrow, I would call it: Rod Bender

My favorite band is: There are a few…. The Beatles, AC/DC, Van Halen

My favorite karaoke song is: “Piano Man” by Billy Joel

If I were a CMBC beer, I would be: Honey Porter on Nitro… face it, I’m Jersey Fresh and smooth… haha.
