Why I Ride: Steve Briggs

As we get closer to the ride, we’ll be checking in with the brave and intrepid riders on our BikeMS: City to Shore team. This week, we’ll be meeting our BikeMS: City to Shore team captain — Steve Briggs.

Steve is a six-year veteran of the team, leading us in the ride for the past four years. He works his butt off every year, working with both the brewery and BikeMS to make the event as successful as possible.

Meet Steve!

Advice to Riders

So, you’ve decided to join our BikeMS: City to Shore team.

That makes you awesome.

Yet, you’re — understandably — not sure what to expect. You’re not entirely sure what equipment you need to buy or how to prepare — mentally and physically — for riding a hundred miles.

So, we tracked down some of our veterans of the ride  — guys who’ve been doing it for nearly a decade as well as those for whom last year was their first. They had some great insider tips — things you may not have ever considered — and things those quote-unquote “professional” sites might not tell you.

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been at this for seven years....

Cheers to Seven Years of Great Beers!

If you’ve been doing something nonstop for seven years, you should celebrate that fact. You’re even more deserving of a celebration if you’ve been doing that thing well.

Luckily, at Cape May Brewing Co., we’ve been doing our thing for seven years. And, if you guys are to be believed, we’re doing it well.

Regardless, it’s time to celebrate seven years of beer — and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without you.

So… LET’S PARTY!

I was like, "I’m gonna crush it!" Then, "Oh, I’m NOT gonna crush it!" But I knew that City to Shore was going to taste that much better at the end. -- Katie MacTurk

BikeMS: City to Shore… Success!

We’re unbelievably proud of our City to Shore team. They pedaled their butts off and raised over $30,000 for Multiple Sclerosis research and awareness, over 150% of their goal.

“These guys killed it,” Ryan says. “We’ve had our biggest team yet and we’ve raised the most money we’ve ever raised. This is the biggest fundraiser we do, and with such dedicated team members, they make it look easy.”

CMBC Core Values Shine from City to Shore

At Cape May Brewing Co., we’ve recently codified our Core Values: what we stand for, why we’re here, what we hope to achieve in our business, other than brewing great beer.

Over the past few months, we’ve realized that each of our Core Values apply to our involvement with BikeMS: City to Shore or an attribute our riders will need to complete the ride. So, we’ve decided to sit down and explain exactly how each of our Core Values speaks to BikeMS.

Our Hundred-Milers

We really couldn’t be more proud of the guys in the brewhouse. Across the board, we’ve got some great people back there: not only are they dedicated to producing the best beer possible, but truly, hand-to-God good people.

When they all signed up to ride BikeMS: City to Shore, we weren’t terribly surprised. Grateful and delighted, certainly, but not surprised.

A few weeks ago, we got together with four of our guys — Eddie Siciliano, Mike McGrath, Kevin Kately, and our BikeMS: City to Shore ringleader, Andrew Ewing — to check in on their progress.

And, again: these are great guys. We love them. They’ve got hearts as big as the great outdoors. But. Well… when you get these guys together, crassness transpires.

As a brewery, we sponsor a team to raise money, but a lot of the riders do it to have a good time. And these guys know how to have a good time.

And this interview was definitely a good time.

Consider yourself warned.

Our 80-Milers

We’re proud of our guys in the brewhouse. With this year’s City to Shore ride, they’re really taking our Core Value of Be a Good Neighbor to heart. Nearly the entire production team is stepping up to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research, and they need all the help they can get.

This week, we’re checking in with the guys doing the 80-mile ride, Head Brewer Brian Hink and Brewer Mark Graves. Neither of them are strangers to biking.
