Pick of the Batch
Beer is great throughout the year, but, as the days get shorter and the shadows get longer, drinking a cold beer while the falling leaves swirl around you makes it a little easier to say goodbye to summer and welcome the autumn.
So, on October 12th, Cape May Brewing Company is ushering the cooler climes with the Pick of the Batch, a beer garden in honor of all things autumn.
In particular, our beer.
“Most people are familiar with an Oktoberfest,” says Events Coordinator Randi Friel, “but with Pick of the Batch, Cape May Brewing Company is breathing new life into a two-hundred-year-old tradition. It’s not just about beer: it’s about all of our exclusive brews you won’t be able to get anywhere else. Ever.”
Randi knows what’s up. She should — she and Tasting Room General Manager Chris Costello have been working on this event for the better part of a year.
“It’s gonna be huge,” Chris says. “Food, music, beer, family activities. There’s really no reason not to come. It’ll be a great day in celebration of awesome beer.”
You’ll see some old favorites, of course — it’s not a party without Cape May IPA — and nearly a dozen one-offs, small-batch brews, casks, innovative, and specialty brews. You’ll find a killer Apple Pie ala Mode crafted with our delicious Apple Pie, a Pumpkin Shandy, our one-off fan-favorite Devil Goes to Moscow on a Mule, and scads of new favorites you’ll be sure to love! You’ll receive a commemorative stein to toss back all these brews as well as a passport to check all of them off your list!
And the Brew Crew will be in full force at the Pick of the Batch! You’ll get a chance to chat beer with your favorite brewers and team members as they sip their favorite creations. You can talk about our awesome designs with the marketing team or simply kick back and relax with the distribution crew at Cape Beverage. (Because those guys never miss a party!)
In addition, we have a number of crispy, fall-like activities planned, sure to get you in the mood for cooler days and nights.
Pumpkin painting anyone? We’ll have a ton of pumpkins available for purchase (okay, maybe not a ton, but a bunch…). Who’s going to try their hand at painting our Hoppy Sailor on a pumpkin?
Local artist David Macomber will be on hand, turning pumpkins into glorious works of art! You’re definitely familiar with David’s work: he painted that awesome shark mural in our Tasting Room as well as all of the art on our self-guided tour and in the Brewtique — essentially, if it’s on the wall and painted, David hooked us up! Be sure to see what he creates!
From 2-6pm, we’ll be out behind the Beer Garden with games galore and a maze constructed of bales of hay. It’ll be a family fun day for everyone!
Think you’ve got what it takes to reign supreme in our Steinholding competition? You and your fellow competitors will hold a full beer stein, straight-armed, for as long as you can handle it. The World Record is 21 minutes, 17 seconds — are you going to break it? It’s worth a try! At least you’ll get a CMBC Swag Bag out of the deal!
With music provided by Animal House, it’s sure to be a great time! This powerhouse five-piece has played up and down the east coast, from Killington, Vermont, to Key West, Florida, turning out classic covers in party rock, reggae, calypso, dance, funk, hip-hop, and alternative music. You’ll be on your feet and dancing all day long!
And WZXL will be broadcasting LIVE from Pick of the Batch, with Scotty from JoJo & Scotty’s ZXL Morning Show will be on-hand all day!
Luckily, most people will have a three-day weekend. We can thank Christopher Columbus for more than “discovering” the New World — after all, he was in search of all those wonderful fall spices that go into Mop Water.
Tickets for this event are $10 apiece — kids and designated drivers are FREE! — and will go on sale on our website at 10am on Friday, September 6th. Don’t miss out!
