It sounds like a hoot!

Our tri-athletes!

Escape the Cape weekend is a big one in Cape May. Several thousand competitors descend upon our fair town, biking, running, and swimming in some of the most beautiful terrain you’ll find in competitive triathlons.

We’re thrilled to be part of it each year, brewing a special beer — Escape the Cape — to mark the occasion.

This year will be truly something special — three members of the Brew Crew have agreed to run a relay team for us! We got together with Paul Greer, Lauren Frech, and Caitlin Gard to get their thoughts on swimming/running/biking their leg of this award-winning triathlon.

Why did you agree to do Escape the Cape?

It sounds like a hoot! I bike, swim, and run, so it seemed like a neat thing to do with some coworkers.

Have you ever done anything like this before? Have you swam competitively before?

I’ve run numerous marathons. I ran the Disney Dopey in January, which is 48.6 miles in four days. I used to do triathlons. I love cold beer, but hate cold water. I’ll probably wear a full wetsuit if the water temps stay in the high 50s to low 60s.

How long have you been swimming?

A bunch of years. I swam competitively in college in the 70s and ran my first marathon in 1992 and my first triathlon in ‘96.

What are you looking forward to with this experience?

Jumping off the ferry at the start and an ice cold Escape the Cape at the finish line.

Give us three words to describe Escape the Cape (the beer).

Three words… a Pale Ale worth swimming a mile for. How’s that for 8 words? Refreshing. Crisp. Hop-iferous.

I worked this event last year and had a great time watching everyone compete. When they visited the CMBC tent to pick up some awesome swag after the race, I was able to speak with a few of the competitors and it made me want to join this year.

Have you ever done anything like this before? Have you run competitively before?

I’ve been running races for years and love it. I’m prepared to run this race and I’m excited to cross that finish line representing CMBC.

How long have you been running?

I ran a lot to stay in shape in college but didn’t really start running races until 2011.

What are you looking forward to with this experience?

I’ve never participated in a triathlon before! Even though I realize I’m not participating in all three legs of the race, it’s exciting to be a part of a team, accomplishing something that is completely new to me.

Give us three words to describe Escape the Cape (the beer).

Hops, Smooth, Finish. See what I did there…? “Hop” off the ferry, “smooth” ride, running “finish”!

I love biking! I love the idea of participating as a team for the brewery.

Have you ever done anything like this before? Have you biked competitively before?

I did Bike New York. It’s a 50-mile bike tour through all five boroughs. It was more for fun than anything.

How long have you been biking?

12 years strong!

What are you looking forward to with this experience?

FUN!!!

Give us three words to describe Escape the Cape (the beer).

Smooth, light, crisp, and one more… refreshing!
