New Jersey Monthly Awards
NJ Monthly recently came out with the top 16 breweries in the state, and — hey, look! — we were among those honored!
They’re also doing a March Madness-style bracket elimination to determine the best brewery in New Jersey. We’re the #1 seed in the South region, and we’ve already advanced a round! Be sure to vote!
In addition, they picked their favorite styles. Check them out below!
This three-way award is particularly gratifying.
We love our Tasting Room. It’s home. It’s where we love to be. It’s certainly nice to hear that NJ Monthly agrees!
They loved the fact that you are greeted upon entry — and we love our greeters! Visiting a brewery for the first time can be intimidating, and they make everyone feel welcome and are happy to guide you on your way. Our free, self-guided tour was another high point of their review: it “encourages interaction as it should be.”
Be sure to swing by soon! Warmer weather is on its way, and there’s no better place to visit than our Tasting Room!
Best Saison — Misty Dawn
The Misty Dawn will never die! Named for Mop Man’s boat that now resides at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, the resurrection of this saison — in its second incarnation — tied for the best Saison in the state!
Brewed with Rabbit Hill malt, Misty Dawn was specifically designed to be a showcase for the best malt in New Jersey. The result of one of our first internal homebrew competitions, because of Rabbit Hill’s floor-malting process, South Jersey’s unique terroir stays in the grain instead of being baked away in a kiln. We utilized their rustic Farmhouse Pilsner, red wheat, and rye malts to give this version of Misty Dawn Saison an earthy and complex foundation.
Paired with an expressive Belgian yeast strain, Misty Dawn Saison is a distinctively unique beer with notes of grapefruit zest, earthiness, and a dry, spicy finish — thanks in part to a hefty addition of Noble Saaz hops to round things out.
Best Wheat Beer — Summer Catch
It’s all of the best things about the Jersey Shore, conveniently packaged in a portable 12-ounce can! Summer Catch — our summer wheat — tied for best wheat beer!
We set out to brew a light, summery, crushable brew, and it’s our favorite way of keeping hydrated over the summer.
Citrusy and refreshing, notes of orange peel and tropical fruits dominate this Belgian-style Wheat Ale. Lightly dry-hopped with Citra and Amarillo hops to give it a noticeably American twist, this crushable wheat ale is complex yet approachable, just like the Jersey Shore.
And, thankfully, summer will be here soon enough!
Best Branding & Labeling
You know the marketing department is loving this win!
During our recent redesign, we spent 18 months and about a bajillion gray hairs to come up with this look. We were looking for something that both spoke to who we are as a company as well as incorporating something distinctly Cape May-ian.
We decided upon a logo that looks windswept and beachy. The can designs pull your focus to the iconography in the middle while instantly communicating “CMBC”.
Best Use of New Jersey Themes & Ingredients
This win probably has as much to do with our redesign as it does our choice of beer names and our use of ingredients. Three Plows IPA was the first modern beer to use exclusively ingredients from New Jersey. Names such as Coastal Evacuation, Concrete Ship, Devil’s Reach, Sawyer’s Swap, and many of the names in our Barrel Aged Series come from New Jersey history and lore.
You can take the beer outta Jersey, but you can’t take the Jersey outta the beer. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Awards are great and all, but we know we wouldn’t have gotten to where we are today without the support of our fans. It’s you guys who keep us striving for excellence, and we appreciate you.
See you soon! And don’t forget to vote!
