Movies with the Brew Crew
We’re in the home stretch, now, folks!
(If we say it enough times, that makes it true, right?)
It’s been two months since quarantine began, and, if you’re anything like us, you’ve binge-watched every television show in existence, you’ve cooked every experimental recipe you can think of, and you’ve discovered a new favorite artist and worked your way through their entire discography.
We feel you. We do.
So, this week, we polled the Brew Crew for their favorite movies because our entire lives are screens, now. We had them pair their favorite movie with their favorite Cape May Brewing Company brew.
Check ‘em out!

What’s your favorite movie? Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Follow the Gull
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? At the end of the day, really, any of the CMBC beers will pair perfectly with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off because… it’s a day off!! Celebrate it! Enjoy It! Life moves pretty fast… RELAX!! Follow the Gull is just so versatile a beverage that it will adapt to any situation that you find yourself in: crisp and refreshing on a nice sunny day (at a Cubs’ game); hoppy, dry, and bubbly to pair with your favorite French meal (at Ches Quis); crushable while playing your favorite vintage arcade game, ‘Karate Champ”… Follow the Gull checks so many different boxes, you just can’t lose.

What’s your favorite movie? Jaws
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Cape May White
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? If you have read the blog, you will know Jaws has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Cape May White is the PERFECT pairing. The orange peel, coriander, wheat beer is just awesome for the beach! Plus, I think the jaws on our can came from Quint’s fishing shack! The movie Jaws is sooo relevant right now – so you see the similarities? It’s the film that invented the summer blockbuster and also all made us a little afraid to swim in the ocean. The movie deals with such questions as, “What will our July 4th look like? Do we close the beaches? Are we going to have a mob of tourists? Are you afraid (to go into the water)?” This year I will have Cape May White in my backpack, I hope I can take a ferry ride, wear my bandana like Chief Brody, and enjoy a cold Cape May White and keep a lookout for Mary Lee’s descendants!

What’s your favorite movie? Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Always Ready
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? I’ve been enjoying the throwbacks on Disney+ and watched Rick Moranis last night crush it in all his super-science dad glory in this right-now-a-shrinking-kid-machine-might-actually-come-in-handy blockbuster from yesteryear. While my daughter and son both really enjoyed it (especially the idea of riding Anty and baiting him with a crumb from a Little Debbie’s oatmeal cream pie), I’m not sure if I enjoyed fantasizing about my kids getting lost in the back yard for one day even more. Needless to say, it pairs well with Always Ready— because any day now, this technology could become a thing and readiness is key to one’s survival….

What’s your favorite movie? Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Tan Limes
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? I love the movie and the beer.
Brewtique Manager Kaitlyn Smith
What’s your favorite movie? Almost Famous
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Tan Limes
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Well, I personally think Tan Limes goes with everything… but I fell in love with this film on the first watch, just like I fell in love with Tan Limes on the first taste. The movie has an amazing story, a great cast, and a great soundtrack. The movie is so easy to enjoy over and over again, just like Tan Limes.
Brand Ambassador Walt Rogers
What’s your favorite movie? Coco
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Tan Limes
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Tan Limes just feels right when watching the best Disney movie from the past decade (don’t even @ me). The Mexican-style beer sips smoothly as we watch Miguel go from putting his own wants first to learning that there is nothing more important than family. The animation, the storytelling, and the music all complement each other perfectly, just like the flavors of Tan Limes: lager, sea salt, and lime.

What’s your favorite movie? Molly’s Game
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? She the People
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Based on the true story of Molly Bloom, the movie shows you how she built the highest-stakes poker game in the world. She hosted high-end celebs and businessmen in her underground games. Many men tried to bring her down throughout her life, but she didn’t take crap from any of them!

What’s your favorite movie? Young Frankenstein
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Bourbon Barrel-Aged Sawyer’s Swap
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? In times like this, the best thing to do is laugh. I would definitely recommend a Mel Brooks marathon. My absolute favorite of all of them is Young Frankenstein. I have my parents to thank for that one because they had us quoting the movie on the regular before we ever saw it. It is such a classic in our household that when it was on TV early in the quarantine, we had a group chat going while we watched it. For this kind of high brow comedy, I’m going into my beer cellar for something barrel-aged and complex. Luckily, I have a couple Bourbon Barrel-Aged Sawyer’s Swaps squirreled away for the perfect pairing.
Cape Beverage Warehouse Manager Craig Tropp
What’s your favorite movie? Dazed and Confused
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Coastal Evacuation
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Dazed and Confused is probably my all-time favorite feel-good movie to throw on, and Coastal Evacuation is a perfect heavy-hitting throwback beer to pair with it! Coastal goes nicely with this flick because whether I’m drinking to relax or I’m planning to get Dazed and Confused myself, this beer hits the mark.

What’s your favorite movie? The Princess Bride
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Always Ready
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? For some strange reason, us theatre folk have a pantheon of films that form the basis of our common language with one another, yet may have escaped the attention of the regular movie-going public. Along with Clue, The Princess Bride sits at the top of that list. Insanely quotable, The Princess Bride is based on a “kissing book” by William Goldman — which he billed as the “abridged version” of a novel by S. Morgenstern –, and it really has everything: “fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles!” With a cast of ridiculous characters, this 1987 action adventure-love story-screwball comedy is edge-of-your-seat fun, heartwarming, and ridiculously silly — perfect for kids of all ages.
And I’ll have to pair The Princess Bride with Always Ready: it’s the perfect mawwige of beer and film. Mandy Patinkin’s character of the Spaniard Inigo Montoya spends the film as a hired swordsman for Wallace Shawn’s Vizinni in his plot to start a war between the two countries of Guilder and Florin, all the while on the lookout to seek revenge on the six-fingered man who killed his father and left him scarred when he was ten. With his repeated line, “Hallo. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die,” Inigo is Always Ready to exact his overdeveloped sense of vengeance upon the six-fingered man. Is he successful? You’ll have to watch to find out!

What’s your favorite movie? Frozen 2
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Cape May White
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? All of the snow in Frozen is white, and it’s such a fun movie, much like the flavors in Cape May White.
Sales Manager Scott McIntyre
What’s your favorite movie? Wedding Crashers
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Cape May IPA
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Cape May IPA is a classic, just like any Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson movie. Plus, it has a crab on the label! “Crabcakes and Football! That’s what Maryland does!”
Cape May Brewing Company Warehouse Manager Polly Pollock-Bell
What’s your favorite movie? The Guardian
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Always Ready
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Because… Coast Guard! Semper Paratus, yay!
Brand Ambassador Mark Dumsha
What’s your favorite movie? Pretty much any mystery movie on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Always Ready
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Definitely Always Ready! I need the lower ABV when I am watching mystery movies instead of sports during the quarantine!
Marketing Assistant Kristen Taylor
What’s your favorite movie? Easy A
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Crushin’ It
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? What do Will Gluck’s beloved 2010 high school comedy and CMBC’s delicious and refreshing IPA have in common, you may ask (even though you totally didn’t)? Oranges! Shot in Ojai, California, Easy A features bushels on bushels of oranges. So many, in fact, you’ll wonder if it was an intentional choice on the director’s behalf. Turns out, it was. Gluck hid as many oranges in frame as possible throughout the film. Cut to: Crushin’ It. Turn it into a drinking game. Spot an orange in the Penderghast’s kitchen or any other place one would expect to find this citrus native to Ojai? Take a sip. Orange on a bookshelf? Two sips.
Sales Manager Evan Kostka
What’s your favorite movie? Blade Runner
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Always Ready
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Blade Runner is one of the best and most underrated films of the last 40 years. Always Ready is perfect because you can have more than a few and still make it through the movie.
Sales Manager Paul Minore
What’s your favorite movie? Jaws
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Cape May White
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? The name says it all! With the jaws of a great white on the label, Cape May White pairs well with the classic movie Jaws. If only that Kitner kid stayed out of the ocean, he may have grown old enough to enjoy this refreshing beer.
Cellarman, Soda Ops, and Culinary Guru JP Thomas
What’s your favorite movie? The Princess Bride
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Bourbon Barrel-Aged Sawyer’s Swap
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? The Dread Pirate Roberts has barrels of booze on his ship, so I’m sure Sawyer’s Swap was aging in one of them. This movie has it all. A six-fingered man, sword fights, giants, games of wit, R.O.U.S.es, a miracle man, and a beautiful princess. What could go with all that? Bourbon Barrel-Aged Sawyer’s Swap is just that: big flavors, smooth, a warming feeling, and packs a punch. That’s a good movie night.
Brand Ambassador Mary DiLazzaro
What’s your favorite movie? 10 Things I Hate About You
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Crushin’ It
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? The plot of the film centers around a character’s “crush” and devising a zany plan to win the crush’s affection. The memorable one-liners, amazing cast (a young Heath Ledger, thank you!), and a quintessential serenade pairs well with the likable Crushin’ It. Plus, the film takes place in the spring, timed perfectly for the release of the brew. Coincidences? I think not!
Sales Manager Mike Laferrera
What’s your favorite movie? Rudy
Which CMBC beer pairs well with your choice? Always Ready
Why does your beer choice pair well with this movie? Because Rudy was Always Ready to get on the field, and when he finally did it was magic. It’s also my favorite movie because Director of Sales Bill Zaninelli hates Notre Dame!
