...to drink beer without gaining any weight....

Meet Sue!

If you’ve been to the brewery, odds are that you’ve had the good fortune of being greeted by Sue Gibson. Sue’s been a fan of ours since the early days and knows the ins and outs of the brewery better than anyone.

“She’s very informative,” says Retail General Manager Kaitlyn Smith. “She’s got a wealth of information about the brewery and our processes. She loves to meet new people, loves beer, and loves CMBC.”

She works full time at the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, a frequent host of pop-up beer gardens over the summer and a beneficiary of one of our summer Pint Nights.

So, without further ado, meet Sue!

Longwood 2017 (2)I AM FROM…  I grew up in Collingdale, Pennsylvania, a small town located in Delaware County. In 1984, I moved to New Jersey and live in the Villas.

MY FAVORITE CMBC BEER IS… There are so many great CMBC beers it’s hard to label one as my favorite. I tend to gravitate toward strong beers like Apple Bomb, Devil’s Reach, and Concrete Ship. I also enjoy many of our seasonal beers and look forward to mixing them, i.e. Apple Bomb and Cranberry Bog. If I have to name a favorite, however, I would say the Boughs of Barley: Bourbon. That beer was exceptional.

THE GREATEST ADVENTURE I EVER HAD WAS… A two-and-a-half week trip across the country to Midway, Utah. The trip started out bumpy because our minivan broke down with a bad head gasket a few days before we were ready to leave, so, to make up time, we drove straight through for two days. Arriving in South Dakota, we discovered that the Sturgis Rally was in town: 82,000 motorcycles and no hotel rooms for another fifty more miles.

When we finally arrived in Midway, our condo was located in a beautiful area surrounded by mountains. We spent a day in Dinosaur National Park seeing fossils and learning about dinosaurs, drove to American Fork and hiked 1.5 miles up the mountain to see Timpanogos Cave, and we camped near Arches National Park, going tubing down the Green River. We drove another route back home, visiting Badlands, Mount Rushmore, and Yellowstone. The wildlife and scenery were wonderful. I hope to do it again.

MY FAVORITE HOBBY IS… My favorite hobbies are cooking, crafts, and camping.

Main LobsterTHE LAST TIME I LAUGHED UNTIL I CRIED WAS… It was during a business trip. When it was all done, I decided to take a shortcut through the convention center. This required that I limbo under a curtain pole which was successful. However, when I got to the other side of the pole, I fell to my knees and couldn’t get up — I just started laughing. My boss found me on my knees and tried to help me up, but we just kept laughing and the tears started. We quickly headed to the bar for a much-needed drink.

THE SUPERPOWER I’D LIKE TO HAVE IS…  to drink beer without gaining any weight.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME IS… I love the classic Robin Hood (1938) with Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, John Wayne western and war movies, Sean Connery as James Bond, the original Star Wars movies, the Princess Bride (Inconceivable!); Indiana Jones, not to mention the typical chick flicks.

MY FAVORITE CARTOON IS… Road Runner… Beep Beep.

THE BEST PICKUP LINE I EVER HEARD WAS… From the movie Top Gun. “It just doesn’t seem fair. To you, I mean. But she’s lost that loving feeling.”

THE MOST FAMOUS PERSON I’VE EVER MET WAS… I have been very fortunate to meet several jazz performers while I worked for the Cape May Jazz Festival. My favorite was Herbie Mann who was an American jazz flutist. He also played saxophone and clarinet. I met Herbie at the April 2003 Cape May Jazz Festival during one of his rehearsals and again just before his performance. He was a very humble man; I didn’t know that he was sick at the time. He passed away in July of 2003. I feel very honored that I was able to meet him and hear him perform.

Craft Beer Crab Fest 2MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE IS… People talking with food in their mouth. It drives me crazy.

THE SPORTS TEAMS I FOLLOW ARE… The Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Flyers. I also enjoy watching the Cincinnati Bengals and USA men and women ice hockey teams.

THE BEST ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS… “Things have a way of working out”

IF I WERE AN ANIMAL, I WOULD BE… A dog. They get fed everyday, go outside for fresh air and exercise, don’t have a work schedule, get treats when they are good, learn tricks, provide lots of love for their owners, and some even travel on family vacations.

I WAS DRAWN TO CMBC BECAUSE… I was drawn to CMBC because I love beer and needed a part-time job.

IF I HAD TO NAME A CMBC BEER TOMORROW, I WOULD CALL IT… Stay Your Course or Steady as She Goes which seems fitting for a beer “Crafted on the Cape”.

MY FAVORITE BAND IS… I was never really into music, but I grew up listening to my brother’s and mother’s favorite artists. My husband introduced me to his favorites, and when I worked for the Cape May Jazz Festival, I began to appreciate jazz. I have grown to appreciate the diversity in music and listen to music frequently, but even now I can’t name a favorite because there is so much great music in the world today.

I LOVE WORKING AT CMBC BECAUSE… I love working at CMBC because I enjoy meeting people, working with my co-workers, the positive energy, and drinking great beer.

IF I WERE A CMBC BEER, I WOULD BE… If I were a CMBC beer, I would be a Belgian, strong golden ale — Devil’s Reach.
