IPA Day 2019

It’s one of our favorite random, made-up holidays at CMBC: IPA Day is on Thursday, August 1! We don’t know where it came from, but we’re excited nonetheless!

A day to celebrate one of the most popular and widely-imbibed beer styles known to man? You know that’s something we can totally get behind.

We caught up with the Brew Crew to find out which of our tasty IPAs is their favorite, and how they will be celebrating.

Check it out!

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Cape May IPA

What do you love about this beer?: How bright and balanced!

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: In the Tasting Room, hanging out with our awesome fans!

Mop Man Bob Krill

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Cape May IPA

What do you love about this beer?: Cape May IPA is my all-time favorite sessionable IPA and my go-to beer. It’s so very drinkable. Not too bitter, not too malty, and not too hoppy. This beer contains just the right amount of everything — malt, hops, and yeast — that you would expect in a great IPA.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: I plan to have a frosty mug and a Cape May IPA with my family and friends.

Resident MacGuyver Chris “Hank” Henke

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Cape May IPA

What do you love about this beer?: Its yumminess.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: August 1st happens to be DOGust 1st, so I plan to drink a Cape May IPA with our birthday girl, Lois the puppers.

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Follow the Gull

What do you love about this beer?: Follow the Gull is a super approachable IPA. Being a little lower on the ABV, it’s one that I can easily enjoy more than one! It’s super hazy and finishes with a great mouthfeel.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: I’ll be pouring plenty of IPAs behind the bar in the Tasting Room.

Director of People Operations Christine Bry

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Coastal Evacuation

What do you love about this beer?: It’s drinkable! So many double IPAs are rough to drink with an aftertaste that stays with you too long — not Coastal Evacuation! Smooth, hop-forward — you taste the hops but it does not stay too long. Like an evacuation, it knows when to get out!

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: With family and friends, of course! In the Tasting Room or at home, I love to hear the crack of a can of Coastal! Or maybe after work, we will take a few to the beach… remember, I love the beach after 5pm!

Brand Ambassador Kate Szabo

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Coastal Evacuation

What do you love about this beer?: This an awesome West Coast style IPA and the orange and honeydew are some flavors I absolutely love.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: Grilling in the backyard after work and enjoying a cold one.

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Follow the Gull

What do you love about this beer?: It’s low alcohol so you can drink a few and not be hammered. It’s hoppy but not over the top, a beautiful balance.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: Have one after a long day of work.

Head Driver Christopher Martin

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Crusty Barnacle

What do you love about this beer?: I love Brett beers, so this nice, light, dry, and crisp Bretty boi is right up my alley, and, with the low abv of 6.4%, you can drink it all day!

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: By drinking it, duh!

Sales Manager Eric Wormann

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Anniversary Ale 8

What do you love about this beer?: It’s a big, full, in-your-face, juicy IPA. It’s nice to have crushers that you can have more than one, but this one is unapologetically full of flavor and mouthfeel. It’s perfect for when you want to really enjoy and appreciate a well-made beer.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: I am going to sip one casually on my porch so I am not hungover on my 2+ hour drive to the brewery the next morning.

Brand Ambassador Tom Puza

JF203667Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Coastal Evacuation

What do you love about this beer?: Coastal Evacuation to me is a super approachable Double IPA — a beer that goes well with anything. At 8%, it drinks very easy and was one of the first Cape May Brewing Co. beers I ever had. In a way, it made me fall in love with the brand and the idea of great local craft beer in the State of New Jersey.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: If I manage to sneak out of work early, I may have to crack one or two Coastal Evacuations by the BBQ.

Sales Manager Richie Rallo

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Cape May IPA

What do you love about this beer?: It is my favorite beer. I love it.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: I plan to enjoy a Cape May IPA during the tasting at Sunset Liquors from 4-6pm on August 1st (IPA Day). I encourage everyone to join in, as well.

Guest Guru Mary Braccili

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Anniversary Ale 8

1M6A1621EditWhat do you love about this beer?: I feel like this is a trick question. It’s like choosing who gets to live on the desert island and who gets eaten by a Great Wit (see what I did there?)

I’m choosing the Anniversary Ale strictly because it is a unique beer each year. This year’s version has tropical fruit tones without being overly citrusy, and I like it best at the end of the day when you just want to relax with a refreshing, cold brew. At 7.8% ABV, it’s substantial, yet not too heavy. It pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, a salty snack, or a pink sunset.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: After drinking my last can, I plan to memorialize Anniversary Ale 8 in a paddle-out ceremony.

Sales Manager Mike Laferrera

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: City to Shore

What do you love about this beer?: It’s a ridiculously easy-drinking beer for the summer.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: I plan on working — selling a lot of our IPAs!

Brand Ambassador Mark Dumsha

What do you love about this beer?: Easy drinking and packs a punch!!!

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: Tailgating for the Thomas Rhett concert in Camden!!!

Events Team Member Jenna Tesauro

What do you love about this beer?: The hops give it a great citrus punch for a DIPA. There’s enough body but the hops are the key, which makes for a great IPA.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: The release of City to Shore is always a reminder that fall is on the horizon, as is Eagles training camp. I’ll probably enjoy one or two while catching up on football news, though I’m still looking forward to the weeks of summer between IPA Day and Labor Day.

Innovation Director Brian Hink

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Crusty Barnacle

What do you love about this beer?: It’s a 100% Brett-fermented Pale Ale/IPA — what’s not to love about it? It’s super dry and tropical and refreshing, and it’s a really unique offering in the sea of IPAs out there. Because it’s brewed with Brett, it has to be brewed in the sour facility limiting the batch size to our smallest size, so, unfortunately, it doesn’t last very long. It’s important to drink it up while it’s around!

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: I will have my two shifties that day — one will be Crusty, and the other will be Follow the Gull — if it’s still available because that’s getting close to kicking. If both of these are kicked I will be very sad and not sure what I’m going to do — I’ll definitely drink the POG Always Ready one-off, and City to Shore is always a great option. So basically I’d like to drink all the hops.

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Coastal Evacuation

What do you love about this beer?: The burst of orange citrus and honeydew melon are the perfect match for a West Coast Double IPA.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: In an Adirondack chair in my backyard paired with smoked chicken thighs.

Packaging Manager Mark Graves

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Crusty Barnacle

What do you love about this beer?: Crusty Barnacle is one of my absolute favorite beers that we produce. I believe there’s a little something in there for the lovers of IPAs, Saisons, mixed fermentation beers, and even fruit beer lovers. The base is a nice pale ale, but the Brettanomyces takes the front stage in this delicious treat, providing elements of fruit, tartness, and funk. The dry hops add that nice cherry of depth in flavor that many IPA lovers have come to love. With a nice, dry finish and a variety of flavors, Crusty Barnacle pairs well with almost any dish you can throw at it.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: One sip at a time with some Indian or Thai food, or some good porch drinking.

Marketing Manager Alicia Grasso

Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: City to Shore

What do you love about this beer?: I love the citrus punch of this beer!  It was my first fave of the brewery and still holds a special place in my heart.

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: Watching the Phillies play the Giants and sharing a few cans with my Dad.

Warehouse Manager Polly Pollock-Bell

JF204186Favorite Cape May Brewing Company IPA: Follow the Gull

What do you love about this beer?: This is the beer that made me fall in love with IPAs. It’s easy-to-drink, smooth, and full of flavor. The citrus undertones are absolutely delectable!

How do you plan to enjoy it on IPA Day?: I will definitely be enjoying a frosty one after work in the Tasting Room with the Brew Crew.

We’ll be open 11am to 9pm on IPA Day, and we’ll have a special flight of Cape May IPA, Coastal Evacuation, City to Shore, and Follow the Gull, as well as special one-offs. If you can’t make it down, check the Beer Finder to find some Cape May Brew Co. IPAs near you.
