Independence Day Traditions

The Brewers Association has declared July 3rd to be “National Independent Beer Run Day” — you gotta go out to grab your independent beer before you can celebrate your independent nation.

Luckily, if you need to make a beer run, our Tasting Room and Brewtique will be open from 11am to 9pm for you to grab your favorite independent beer.

We caught up with the Brew Crew to see what they’d be sampling this year. Check it out!

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? Starting a new tradition with Radley!

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? Tan Limes! It’s light yummy and refreshing.

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Anything grilled.

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? Thirdworks are a big thing for me and my friends. Every year on the 3rd of July, Lower Twp. puts on a fireworks show along the Delaware Bay. When I was little, it was a huge family outing, but then as I got older, I worked at Harpoons on the Bay (then Harpoon Henry’s) for years during the show – and, boy, did people put on a show after a few or 10 beers! – and now I get to celebrate with friends! In the past, we’ve gone to the bay beach by noon and hung out until the fireworks are over after 9:30pm. People would bring huge, 10-person floats and we would tie them all together: food, speakers, and anything else needed for an epic beach party.

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? Tan Limes + The Bog. Both have lower ABVs which allows you to enjoy your night and not get Star Spangled Hammered within the first hour. Plus, they’re both the best summer beers that have ever touched my lips.

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Grilled everything. Jersey corn. ‘Merica’s food.

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? Since my birthday is on the 6th, I normally head home to Chicago for the Taste of Chicago which ends around the 4th every year to meet up with my dad. We have a rib eating contest which I have only won one year so far.

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? For this year, I will be enjoying my new favorite: Follow the Gull. Mainly for the taste, but as a summer IPA, it’s refreshing on a hot summers’ day with the punch I look for in a beer.

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Besides ribs and seafood, I am looking for the best strawberry cheesecake in the NJ area this year. I believe this is the year to change my opinion on the best bakery in my area.

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? As we have every year since the early ’90s, “Aunt Mary” has a wonderful family home in Townbank where we gather. Between my house, my brother’s house, and two cousins’ houses, all within 3 miles of each other. We have anywhere from 20-30 family and friends gather on July 3rd for a beach day at the Cove, cocktails, and burgers at Aunt Mary’s house and then continue said cocktails at the bay for the fireworks celebration. Since it is a long weekend this year, it looks as if we may have close to 40 people partaking in the fun and laughter. This year, our youngest is 1 year old; the oldest (Aunt Mary) is 84 years old…. Folks are flying in from Florida, North Carolina, and California!

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? My husband, John, and I pack a cooler full of CMBC beer, and we go to the 12th street beach in Sea Isle around 6 or 7 PM. We have a picnic dinner, bring some games, and wait for the fireworks to begin. Then, we turn around and watch the Ocean City fireworks from afar and wait for the traffic to dissipate.

My husband and I met in Wildwood, NJ, in the summer of 1986. That’s when this tradition of packing a picnic and a cooler and going to the beach at night started. (Shhhh!) Once, we even fell asleep and woke up when the sun came up! Glad we have Cape May beer to take now! The beach at night is awesome!

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? On the beach, Great Wit Shark, of course! (Insert Jaws music) and some Summer Catch and Tan Limes (if we can manage to get some in the growler before it’s all gone).

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Pasta with grilled chicken and a pesto sauce.

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? Does Phish count as a tradition? I’m going to have to go with a resounding YES! My first show was July 3, 2000, in Camden — I was too much of a noob at the time to realize that I was supposed to turn around and go back on the 4th — but their July 4th shows are legendary.

So, this summer, nineteen years later, I’m doing seven shows — the most I’ve done in a Summer Tour. Shows six and seven (numbers 47 and 48 for me) will be at Fenway Park up in Boston on the 5th and 6th. Technically, I’ll be on the road on the 4th, fighting traffic to the Massachusetts home of my old roommate from Villanova, Ian, with the younger brother of one of our other roommates. Then, two days of Phish, and, if they play even half as well as they did in Camden this past weekend, we’re in for a treat. (That was an absolutely monumental run. Absolutely monumental.)

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? Two words: Tan Limes. We re-released it just in time for the Camden shows this year, so, even though I was planning to work from home before I headed to the show that day, I came down to bang out this blog and pick up a case of Tan Limes. This is the perfect tailgating beer: intensely refreshing and unparalleled for beating the heat out on the lot. I hope I have enough left over to make it to Boston — I know my local friends are going to love it and probably drink all of it.

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Normally, at a Phish show, I’d hit Shakedown and sample whatever people had going on their grills — there were some killer gyros at Merriweather –, but, since this show is in the middle of Boston, I’m not sure. What do they have in Boston? Baked beans? Clam chowder? Cream pie?

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? Every year my parents throw a 3rd of July party in honor of Independence Day & the North Cape May fireworks. It is open house style — yes, you’re invited (sorry Mom & Dad) — and although we always initially invite a ton of people, after walking down the street to enjoy the fireworks, more people always wander back with us! Each year I make 150 red & blue Jell-O shots and offer them up with whipped cream creating a festive, fun drinking tradition in the Rohana casa!

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? We always have beer pong and/or flip cup going on in the back yard, which this year we will be using the light and refreshing pale Cape May Lager. It’s perfect for slugging down and an easy drinker for all!

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Is Jell-O a food?

Beertender Rich Schmidt

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? Barbecue and fireworks!! I’ve been doing that my whole life.

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? Cape May Lager just feels like the perfect 4th of July beer.

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Hamburgers, hot dogs, and barbecued chicken!!

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? Relaxing with family. We’ll chill on the beach for a while and eventually roll back to my parent’s place for a barbecue. I think the Fourth might be my mom’s second favorite holiday (it’s, at least, top 3), and you can tell by the decor and the spread.

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? Can I drink a Mexican lager on the US’s birthday? Because I’m excited about grabbing some cans of Tan Limes for this warm weather outdoor drinking.

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? I don’t grill personally — it doesn’t really fit in my city apartment –, so whenever someone makes me just about anything off the grill, I’m both excited and appreciative.

Distribution Manager Justin Vitti

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? Annual fireworks extravaganza with my daughter – now daughters. I’ve actually had the same photo taken every year for the past 10yrs at fireworks displays.

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? Follow the Gull and Tan Limes — because you can drink a WHOLE lot of them.

IMG_7265_1What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Burgers from the grill!!!! Nothing says ‘Merica more than some charred meat off a hot grill slathered with Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles on a seeded hamburger bun.

Brewer Brad Young

How will you be celebrating this Independence Day? Any traditions involved? I have a very anxious dog, so I will be spending my July 4th hiding from the fireworks under the bed with her drinking a whole bunch of Tan Limes.

For what CMBC beer will you be making your beer run? Tan Limes, I already told you this above! Oh you want to know why? Because it’s crisp, clean, and delicious! Lager is life.

What favorite food will you be pairing this year? Probably nothing. Maybe split some CBD dog treats with my dog? As I mentioned before, I will be hiding under a bed with her.

Be sure to make some CMBC brews part of your Independence Day traditions! Stop down to the brewery for a growler fill or to pick up your favorite four- or six-pack.

See you soon!
