Ev’ry Rosé Has Its Thorn

We look for a few things when we collaborate with other breweries, but, mostly, we want to find someone who embodies as many of our Core Values as possible.

When we collaborated with DC Brau two years ago, we found them to be about as similar to us as could be, in as many ways as possible.

But, the most obvious is that they’re big proponents of our Core Value #7: “Have fun!”

That is nowhere more evident than in our recent video, “Every Rosé Has its Thorn”. DC Brau CEO Brandon Skall’s air-drum skills are matched only by Ryan’s skateboarding, and each team — here in Cape May and over in DC — had a great time making this video.

If you missed it, check it out!

And don’t miss out on Rosé du Gosé — available today, only at the brewery!

We’d definitely be remiss if we didn’t give a few behind-the-music shout-outs.

First of all, many, many thanks to the incomparable Andrew Hink, poly-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, arranger, all-around amazing musician — and brother to our very own Innovation Director Brian Hink — for the instrumental arrangement. When you get a chance, check out his SoundCloud. You won’t be disappointed.

And who was that, killing it on drums? Why that was Brian himself. Not only can he brew some amazing beer, but he can play, as well.

Providing and arranging vocals was Straight to the Pint’s own Scott Armato. He’s… writing this blog so he feels weird giving himself any accolades, but you can decide on your own.

Originally, we recorded a longer version of the song, including the iconic bridge, a killer organ solo from Andrew, and the third verse, but we didn’t have enough video footage to use the whole thing.

“Scott blew up the bridge,” Brian says. “And by that I mean killed it, but you can’t really kill a bridge… but you can blow it up!”

If you’d like to listen, here you go.

This was truly a fun project, and it reminded all of us involved why we got into this business in the first place: to brew great beer and to have fun doing it.

And, while the video and the recordings came out amazing, obviously, we didn’t use all of Poison’s nearly five-minute epic tune. But… we did write parody lyrics for all of it, preserved here for posterity.

[Verse 1]
We both brew excellent beers in our own hometowns
Although we’ve both brewed close together, we’ll brew miles apart, this time
Was it something we brewed or something we did?
Did our beers not come out right?
Though we tried hard to brew with you
Though we tried
But I guess that’s why they say

[Chorus]
Ev’ry rosé has its thorn
Just like every beer has its foam
Just like every brewer sings a sad sad song
Ev’ry rosé has its thorn

[Verse 2]
I’m drinkin’ our favorite beer, in the Tasting Room
Hear the beertender say that COVID’s on the rise and it’s doom and gloom
But I wonder does he know
Has he ever brewed like this
And I know that you’d brew here right now if ‘rona
Would go away somehow

[Chorus]
Ev’ry rosé has its thorn
Just like every beer has its foam
Just like every brewer sings a sad sad song
Ev’ry rosé has its thorn

[Bridge]
Though we’ve brewed a great beer
We can still feel so much pain
Like a can that cuts you the wound heals
But the scar, that scar remains

[Verse 3]
I know we coulda brewed a beer that night
If I’d known what to say
‘Stead of makin’ beer
We both made our separate ways
And now you’ve got a new beer to brew
And we never meant that much to you
To hear that tears me up inside
But we’ll brew again sometime
I guess

[Chorus]
Ev’ry rosé has its thorn
Just like every beer has its foam
Just like every brewer sings a sad sad song
Ev’ry rosé has its thorn
