Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Milkshake IPA

Folks, take this as your reminder that Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it. If you haven’t already begun shopping for that special person in your life, now is the time. We’ve all learned our lessons regarding shipping times during the Christmas season, so, if you want that perfect piece of jewelry to arrive sometime before Valentine’s Day, order it now.

Wait! We didn’t mean right now. We meant after you read this blog about our Valentine’s Day release.

This year: Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Milkshake IPA, which… well… tastes exactly how you might expect it to taste.

“Who doesn’t love chocolate-covered strawberries?” Ryan asks, rhetorically. “Sweet, gooey, and perfect for Valentine’s Day, we took them as the inspiration for this incredibly non-traditional IPA, which is also perfect for Valentine’s Day.”

Brewed with a delicate touch of Midnight Wheat and a generous helping of sweet milk sugars, Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Milkshake IPA is conditioned on a plentiful serving of strawberry juice and a sumptuous addition of Madagascar vanilla beans.

We originally developed this brew as part of our Tasting Room-Only series, but we decided to scale it up.

“I threw this idea out there during one of our Tasting Room-Only meetings,” says Special Projects and Production Planning Manager Brian Hink. He envisioned a chocolate twist on our collaboration with Great Notion, Strawberry Taffy. “I knew it would get a lot of eye rolls from beer purists and a lot of excitement from our fans. It seemed too absurd to pass up doing, and, quite frankly, I’m surprised at how good it turned out.”

Since we were releasing this one in February, it made sense to tie it into Valentine’s Day. Last year, we had a great Valentine’s Day release with Chocolate-Covered Pineapple Porter, so we knew we wanted to retain the chocolate element.

“However, we also wanted to do an IPA for this February release and thought incorporating the milkshake style would complement the theme for this beer well,” says Tasting Room General Manager Chris Costello.

Director of Sales Bill Zaninelli expects that this beer will do well for its holiday release.

“The timing for this beer couldn’t be more perfect,” he says. “When we began to look for a Tasting Room-Only release that could be scaled up in the timeframe that we needed, we lucked out with Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Milkshake IPA. It’s the perfect beer for Valentine’s Day, and, with Cape May’s reputation for doing fruited beers really well, I’m sure this will be a delicious addition to your holiday celebrations.”

And we’re loving this can design! It features a delicious strawberry milkshake as well as a few strawberry top shells — a type of seashell — so we could keep things nautical.

“This is a really fun can design,” says Social Media and Design Alchemist Courtney Rosenberg, “our design team really knocked it out of the park. The design brings to mind everything you love about chocolate-covered strawberries and milkshakes, using pinks and browns to speak to the liquid inside. Those aren’t colors you usually see on a beer can, but they ended up looking very retro-ice cream shop, and I think our fans are going to love, not only the can design, but the beer inside, as well.”

We’re particularly excited about this release as it taps into two of our strongest styles: fruited beers and IPAs.

“We’ve seen some successes when we incorporate fruit into our beers, and our IPAs stand out in the trade for their quality,” Chris says. “With this one-two punch, fruit and IPA, I’m sure our fans throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware will consider Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Milkshake IPA among our best brews.”

Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Milkshake IPA will be available at our Tasting Room beginning Friday, February 5th, with distribution throughout New Jersey and Delaware the following Monday, February 8th and Pennsylvania following on the 22nd. Don’t miss it!
