Campfire Beers

There’s something about enjoying a cold, frosty beer around a fire. Whether it’s keeping you warm around a campsite or it’s with friends around a bonfire, a summer fire makes beer taste all that much better.

This year, it might be a little more difficult to get together with friends and family around a traditional campfire, but, luckily, Environment New Jersey is hosting an event that reminds us that we can still connect with our natural world and each other.

Camping Together will take place at 8pm tonight through Zoom and Facebook Live. The evening will be kicked off around a virtual campfire with campfire songs, and participants will get access to exclusive Camping Together activity guides.

We asked the Brew Crew for their favorite beers to quaff whilst congregating around a campfire. Check ‘em out!

Director of People Operations Christine Bry

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Anniversary Ale 9

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? The unadulterated hoppiness of this Anniversary Ale is best enjoyed by sipping slowly, sitting next to friends around the fire pit, toasting the nine years of hops Cape May Brewery has brought us!  Cheers!

Tasting Room General Manager Chris Costello

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Bourbon Barrel-Aged Sawyer’s Swap

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? Bourbon Barrel-Aged Sawyer’s Swap will warm your insides while the fire warms your outsides. This beer has also been a nice go-to for a good nightcap and good conversation, aging it in bourbon barrels only makes that experience better!

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Follow the Gull

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? While its time with us is always too short, Follow the Gull is hands-down the perfect campsite beer. You can drink a cooler full of ‘em over a couple of hours and not get too banged up, and the hop character and complexity is just so brilliant that you won’t mind having can after can after can. You definitely won’t feel the need to change it up, the kind of beer you can just drink all night long. Unfortunately, Follow the Gull is no longer available in the Brewtique, having sold out of it last week, you can still probably find it in stores, and if you have a camping trip planned in the near future I would definitely grab yourself as much as you can get your hands on.

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Coastal Evacuation

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? I love Coastal Evacuation for my backpacking trips to the mountains. You need a beer that packs a punch when you are carrying everything on your back that you’ll be using and consuming for the next couple of days. Coastal Evacuation is the perfect beer to sit around a campfire after a long hike. This 8% Double IPA always gets the job done in a refreshing manner!

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Honey Porter

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? Something about the darkness and sweetness of Honey Porter goes well with campfires and s’mores!

Brewer Brad Young

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Cutback

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? There’s no wrong beer for a campfire, but there certainly are beers that are better suited for a campfire. Cutback is perfect for camping, any time, any season, anywhere. Rip one open after a hike or bike ride, after you get out of the water, and of course, around the campfire at the end of the night. Pairs well with those burnt campfire hot dogs and mountain pies.

Brand Ambassador Mary DiLazzaro

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Cape May White

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? This is an easy-drinking beer, a lower-percentage brew that doesn’t make you feel guilty knocking back two/three around the campfire. This also pairs well with s’mores, which I can attest, is delicious.

Guest Guru Mary Braccili

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Anniversary Ale 9

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? We go old-school and hardcore when we camp: lots of potatoes and meat grilled in cast-iron pans. And what pairs better with grilled sausage than an ice-cold double IPA? I’m choosing Anniversary Ale 9 simply because it is a seasonal brew and this year’s version is spectacular.

Sales Manager Scott McIntyre

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Honey Porter

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? The perfect Campfire beer. A smooth and light dark porter with fresh Jersey Honey? Let me know when the s’mores come out!

Head Driver Chris Martin

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Tan Limes

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? It’s light, refreshing, and has a nice little zip to it. Nothing beats getting home from work, starting a fire, and decompressing with a cool, crisp lager! (Plus, I have it on tap.)

Sales Manager Mike Laferrera

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Honey Porter

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? Because what goes better with marshmallows than an easy-drinking Honey Porter?

Greeter Barbara Bur

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Cutback

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? Cutback is light, refreshing and pairs well with treats cooked over the campfire. Truly delightful!

Sales Manager Eric Wormann

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Anniversary Ale 9

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? Big flavor to go with some s’mores.

Lab Manager Lauren Appleman

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Honey Porter

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? This is a beer that is best enjoyed slowly to savor every ounce. It’s sweet and roasty with flavors evolving as it warms up. Give me Honey Porter year-round!

Tasting Room Supervisor Danielle Brasch

Which CMBC beer do you love to drink by a summer campfire? Crushin’ It

Why is this brew awesome by a fire? During quarantine, Mike and I put in our own fire pit in our backyard. After this DIY project was finished, we found ourselves cooking hot dogs over the fire while sipping on Crushin’ It. Talk about ultimate relaxation!

If you’re planning to get together with some friends around a fire, or, if you’re not ready for people yet, check out Environment New Jersey’s Camping Together tonight — either way, you’ll definitely want to stock up with some local delivery or by visiting our Beer Finder. Cheers!
